Cue Taylor Swift's 'Style' - "You've got that James Dean daydream look in your eye, and I got that red lip, classic thing that you like." Okay now I have that stuck in my head...
As you all know by now I'm a bit of a self-confessed red lipstick junkie always on the hunt for more. I would walk into a makeup shop, and my heart skips a beat as I see the array of gorgeous hues, but my purse probably wants to cry thinking not another one. I often have to close my eyes, or get dragged past a store, so I don't wander in and end up buying more lipsticks. To the untrained eye most red lipsticks probably look the same, but to me you can never have enough, there's different finishes, formulas and shade (this is me trying to justify my addiction). I'm a spluger, probably willing to spend most of my saved up pocket money on one lipstick, so sometimes it's nice to try some cheaper alternatives from the drugstore that won't break the bank account. Yes they might not have the luxe feel packaging, but there are so many badass lipsticks in the drugstore, which just like mac lipsticks or kat von d, still makes me feel confident, powerful and ready to take on the world, which is what a red lipstick should do. I've been wearing drugstore lipsticks so much longer than I have high end lipsticks, and just because I've delved my toes into the high end world, definitely wouldn't stop my from buying lippys in superdrug. It's taken me every strength in my body to whittle down to my top 5, as I have so many drugstore alternatives and I LOVE them, my eyes bulge like the heart emoji. I've added a variety of shades, formulas, undertones for different skin tones and brands to fill all your lipstick needs and desires.
This post is dedicated to my great nana, Audrey, who wore red lips all the time and was one of the reasons I started wearing red lipstick. She would always leave red lip marks on everyone's cheeks, and she was just amazing. I was so fortunate to get to know her, with memories that will last a lifetime. I hope I do you proud Granna, I'd do anything for one more red lipped kiss.
1) Makeup revolution retro luxe lip kit in the shade Regal

I L.O.V.E this lip kit so so much ( I say this a lot , because I do LOVE a lot of lippys). Not only does it come with a matching lip pencil it's only £6, a proper bargain! Can we just take a second to appreciate how Makeup Revolution are killing it recently, bringing our such an inclusive range of products, they are 10000% my favourite drug store brand. Anyways back to the lipstick itself. It's this creamy almost mousey texture when you applies it to our lips and then it dries completely matte. It's super long lasting and is such a unique shade, it's that nice in betweeny between a vibrant orange and red. It's a great lipstick to wear during the summer, if you're looking for a red lipstick but don't want to wear a too dark of a colour. The lipliner too is so creamy and pigmented. Despite it being matte, it feels super comfortable and light on the lips, you might need to touch it up occasionally during the day, but this terracotta colour is so rare to find, it's worth the touch ups. To prove how much I love this is I've nearly finished the whole liquid lipstick, be rest assured that I will purchase a new one straight after it's ran out. The only slight downside to this is the undertone can make your teeth look a bit yellower, but it's not incredibly noticeable, and it's totally worth it. This defies he history of lipsticks, and is by far my no.1!
2) Revolution Pro supreme matte lip pigment in the shade Sixth Sense

Okay it's no surprise that I have more than one revolution lipstick on this list, they just bring out such amazing products! This is a newer discovery for me, but I love it so much that I thought it should still be on my top 5 list. For only £4.00, yes you heard me right £4.00, you get this insanely pigmented lipstick, that is so so silky smooth, and just glides on your lips. If you're an autumn lover, this will be the perfect lipstick for you, as it's the dream fall shade. It's vampy, dark and mysterious, and I feel slightly rebellious when I wear this. For someone who is super pasty white, I was scared that this might wash me out and make me look even paler (if that's even possible?), but it compliments my skin tone so nicely and I can even see men and women with deeper skin tones looking amazing too. It's that lipstick that I reckon will suit so many people. What I also love about this lipstick is that it dries completely matte but doesn't transfer, I'm always scared with dark lipsticks that I'll end up with lipstick all on my cheeks and chin and no one would tell me, but this stays put all day!
3) Maybelline Vivid Matte liquid in the shade 35 Rebel Red

This is a super rich, velverty formula that packs a punch with incredible intense colour and it swipes on like a dream. Subtle doesn't cut it with this sensuous lippy. It's that perfect classic red shade, that I always think of when I think of a red lipstick. This has been one of my most faithful lipsticks in my makeup bag for a loooooooong time, and is definitely one of my go tos. The formula has much more of a satin finish rather than matte, but it has less maintenance and trouble than a traditional stick lipstick, it survived when I had ice cream and didn't get on my teeth, which is probably one of the main reasons I love it. Who can relate? I hate it, when I'm talking to someone cute or I have a crush on and there I am with lipstick on my teeth. If you blot your lips it would probably dry down to a more of a matte finish, however as someone who adores liquid lipsticks but has the driest chapped lips that look like a drought, this lipstick is the perfect mixture of a liquid lipstick and a satin bullet lipstick. It's so hydrating and leaves this gorgeous shine, that makes your lips look scrumptious. It also is the colour that gos with everything, skin colour, hair colour outfits, it's certainly a faithful.
4) Rimmel the only 1 Matte in the shade - Take to the stage

This is such good dupe of Mac's Ruby Woo, it's just as good! I love this matte bullet formula, it's non drying but stays put all day. I could wear this all day everyday, it's so light and feather like on your lips whilst not transferring onto everything humanly possible. I don't know why but I get red lipstick in the weirdest of places, like on my elbow, my forehead, my glasses I don't really know how I manage that, but hey ho. Back to the lipstick Lucie, this one is a beauty. No matter what lipstick I use, I will always end up coming back to this bad boy. It leaves your lips looking plush, with a silky matte finish that is never drying. I have so many amazing memories with this lipstick, and it lasts a long time, when I was doing a show with my drama group I put it on at 10am and it lasted right until 10pm when I finished, bear in mind I was singing and laughing a lot the whole day, whilst also drinking gallons of water because of how tiring rehearsals were. I was a little apprehensive about the colour pay of and its longevity because it's a bright red lipstick, as I would normally stray towards a liquid lipstick as I knew it would be long lasting, however, I needn't have been apprehensive at all, it was just as good as I hoped. If you are afraid of using matte liquid lipsticks because of its nature to be drying , this formula might be your saving grace, it's matte but velvety and leaves your lips looking plump and healthy.
5) Makeup revolution Iconic Pro Lipstick - Red Carpet

Last but certainly not least, is this bullet lipstick from Makeup revolution. I've loved and adored this lipstick for years! It's super creamy, and packs a punch! It has this luxurious, sleek texture that glides on the lips like perfection. I was gifted this, and I can safely say I'm in LOVE! Cue heart eye emojis. The colour is to die for, a perfect hue for winter, and it combines all the benefits we all have dream of. It's actually quite a unique shade of red, it's my favourite shade, not too bright but not too dark and vampy. It's perfect. The formula is inimitable and incredibly smooth, leaving your lips looking luscious. For a girl that shys away from bullet lipsticks, I can safely say this is a dream, and changes my mind about bullet lippys altogether. It's so creamy and something I'll pop on when my lips are begging me not to use another matte lipstick. The only downside is that it does move and feathers slightly, so it's best to pair it with a matching lipliner for long lasting effects. But it's worth it for only £3.00; best three pounds I've ever spent!
